One plan
One strategic plan in full: where it is in the board's process, each goal against its pace, the readings and work beneath them, and what the board has decided.
See how the plan is going
- Read the strip at the top: Drafted, With the board, Approved, Under way and Closed, with the stage it is at marked.
- Read each goal's card: its standing, its figure, and how much of its window has gone.
- Press the line under a goal that counts its readings, to see each one with who recorded it and why.
- Read Progress against pace and Goals across the window beside the goals.
- Read Check-ins for any measure overdue a reading, and who is asked.
Then: A goal measured against its target says what the pace expects by now; one measured by its work counts the things done. A goal past its check-in says how many days since its last reading.
Mary Ann opens the five-year plan in month 19 of 48. “Twelve new centers” reads 2 of 12 and at risk, and its note says 40% of the window has gone and the pace expects 5 by now. Check-ins says Daniel is asked for a reading, and the goal's card says no update for 61 days.
Record where a goal has got to
- Find the goal's card.
- Type the figure under Record a reading.
- Say what changed under What changed, if you like.
- Press Record it.
Then: The reading joins the goal's line with your name and the day, and its standing moves. A reading is never edited: if one was wrong, record the right one, and the line shows the correction.
Who: The goal's owner, or board members and administrators at the plan's unit. While the plan is approved or under way, the owner of a goal with a check-in cadence is reminded each night it is overdue: “A measure you own is overdue a reading”.
Grace owns “Twelve new centers”, read every 30 days. On day 31 Grace is reminded, opens the plan, types 5 under Record a reading and “Two opened in the north” under What changed, and presses Record it. The goal moves from at risk to on track.
Add a goal, or give somebody a job toward one
- Type what the goal is under Add a goal.
- Give it a Target and what it is Counting, or leave both blank to measure it by its work.
- Press Add it.
- To give somebody work toward a goal, type the job under Give somebody a job toward it on its card.
- Choose who under For and the date under By, then press Give it.
Then: The job becomes one of the board's action items at the plan's unit, listed under the goal, and whoever has it is told “An action was assigned to you”. A goal with no target measures its progress by these jobs.
Rather not? Press Settings on a goal to change its title, owner, dates or how often it is read under Read it every, then press Save the goal.
Who: Board members and administrators at the plan's unit.
Approve the plan, or send it back
- Find The board's decision, shown while the plan waits on its board.
- Press Approve it.
- Or write what has to change under Send it back with reasons, and press Send it back.
Then: The people named on the plan are told. The strip moves to Approved, or the plan is a draft again with your reasons at the top of the page, and The board's review keeps each decision with who made it.
Who: An officer of the plan's board: the chair, vice-chair or secretary. If you helped write the plan, the page says another officer approves it.
Change a plan the board has approved
- Under The board's review, press Reopen for changes.
- Say why under Why is it being reopened?.
- Press Reopen it.
- Press Edit, change the title, what it is for or its dates, and press Save the plan.
- Open Strategic plans, press the plan's card and press Send to the board.
Then: It goes back to draft and is not live until the board approves it again. The people named on it are told it was reopened, with your reason.
Rather not? To put the plan before its board as it stands, press Snapshot for the pack: a dated progress paper is added to the next meeting of its board on the calendar.
Who: Reopening is an officer's act, like approving. Editing and the snapshot are for board members and administrators at the plan's unit.
You see a plan if you may read board papers at its unit, or you are named on it, own one of its goals, or sit on its board; for anybody else its address says not found. Editing, goals and jobs are for board members and administrators at the plan's unit; approving, sending back and reopening are for an officer of its board. A goal's owner can record its readings without either. Names a unit keeps within it read Somebody.
