My groups: the groups
The groups you run and the groups you are in, invitations waiting on your answer, and the requests to join you are still waiting on.
Join a group with a code
- Open My groups and press Groups.
- Type the code you were given under Code: eight characters, like ABCD-EFGH.
- Check I am 18 or older, or give your date of birth for a group for young people.
- Check that the group's runners may contact you by email, if you want them to.
- Press Ask to join.
Then: Some groups let you straight in. In others your request waits under Asked to join until whoever runs it lets you in, and you are told when they do.
Rather not? Press Take back my request while it waits.
Who: Whoever runs the group, or a helper, lets you in.
A code is read out at the end of a workshop: KQ7M-2RXD. Daniel types it on the train home, checks I am 18 or older and presses Ask to join. The page says Asked to join Young Leaders; on Thursday Grace lets Daniel in, Daniel is told, and the group's wall opens.
Answer an invitation to a group
- Find it under Invitation at the top of Groups.
- Check I am 18 or older, or give your date of birth where the group asks for it.
- Press Join, or Join as a helper if you were asked to help run it.
- Or press No thanks.
Then: Once you join, the group's wall is open to you: press Open it to go there.
Let people into a group you run
- Find the group under Groups you run. A box says how many are waiting to join, and their names.
- Press See who to open the group first, if you like.
- Press Let them in, which says Let all and the number in when several are waiting.
Then: Each is told they are in, and the group's wall opens to them. To let some in and decline others, use the group's People tab.
Who: Whoever runs the group and its helpers let people in.
Start a group
- Press New group.
- Type its Name.
- Choose the unit it Belongs to: where it is answerable. Members can come from anywhere.
- Say What it is for, if you like.
- Press Create group.
Then: It is yours to run. Add people, or create a join code, from its page.
Grace starts 'Thursday study group' at the Riverside center, for 'Thursdays, 7pm, room 3'. It opens with Grace running it; Grace creates a join code with a limit of 30, prints the QR code on the week's notice sheet, and lets in the first 12 on Sunday.
Read a group that has closed
- Press Closed at the foot of the page.
- Press the group's name.
Then: Its wall and files are kept for everybody in it to read; nothing new is posted.
Only your own groups: a group is a room people joined, not something anybody oversees, so even an owner of the organization sees only the groups they are in. Somebody from outside the organization who joined by a group's link or QR code has My wall and My groups as their whole app. They sign in with a 6-digit code emailed to them, choosing Joined a group or a course from outside? Sign in with a code on the sign-in page; they join by a code or link, and cannot start a group.
