Groups
Whether your organization runs informal groups that cross units, and whether people from outside it may join them.
Turn groups on or off
- Check or uncheck Run informal groups.
- Before you save, read what turning them off would hide.
- Press Save changes on the bar at the foot of the page, or Discard to leave things as they were.
Then: On, anyone who can post at a unit can start a group there, such as a study group or an outreach team, and only its members see its wall. Off, every group is hidden, and guests are signed out. Nothing is deleted: it all comes back when you turn groups on again.
Let people from outside join with a code
- Make sure Run informal groups is checked: the second switch works only under it.
- Check Let people outside your organization join.
- Press Save changes.
Then: Group leaders can give out a join code or a QR poster. Somebody who uses it creates an account and waits in a queue for a leader to admit them. A guest holds no seat, so they see the walls of their groups and nothing else: no people, no units, no figures.
Who: Turning this on is recorded in the audit log as a warning, because from then on accounts are made for people nobody in your organization invited.
Daniel's organization runs a course open to people who are not members yet. Daniel lets outsiders join, and the course's leader puts the group's QR poster on the welcome table; each person who scans it waits until the leader admits them.
If nobody can find groups
- Check whether Run informal groups is checked here.
- If it is, check that Teams & groups is in your organization's plan and switched on in Settings › Features › Modules.
Only an organization-wide role that changes settings, such as the Owner or an Admin, can change these switches. The page opens only for those who hold Change organization settings: anybody else who types its address is told it is set up by the organization's Owners and Admins. Somebody who holds it at a unit, not across the organization, sees both switches grayed out.
