Departments

What a department is for, in your own words: these color the departments on the structure, and are what a ready-made structure files its departments under.

Add a kind of department

  1. Press Add a category at the top of the list.
  2. Type its name in Name, such as Welcome or Media.
  3. Choose a Color, or No color to take the accent.
  4. Press Add. The form stays open, empty, for the next one; Cancel closes it.

Then: It is offered when anybody adds a department, at every unit, and the page says the short code it keeps for good.

Every unit of Grace's organization has a welcome team and a media team. Grace adds Welcome and Media here, so each unit picks them rather than typing, and the names read the same on every unit's structure.

Rename or recolor one

  1. Press Edit on its row.
  2. Change Name or Color.
  3. Press Save.

Then: It is renamed everywhere it appears, and departments already filed under it show the new name and color on the structure.

Stop offering one

  1. Press Withdraw at the end of its row.
  2. Read what withdrawing does, and press Withdraw it, or Keep it.
  3. To use it again, find it at the foot of the list, marked Withdrawn, and press Bring back.

Then: It is no longer offered for new departments. Departments already filed under it keep it.

Rather not? Two categories that mean the same thing are not merged here: withdraw the one you no longer want, and change its departments on the structure, so you decide which name stays.

They are the same at every unit, so only an organization-wide role that changes settings, such as the Owner or an Admin, can change them. The page opens only for those who hold Change organization settings: anybody else who types its address is told it is set up by the organization's Owners and Admins. Somebody who holds it at a unit, not across the organization, sees the whole list with every button on it grayed out.
